Alasdair Pinkerton is a political geographer in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway University of London. His research and teaching explores issues of geopolitics, heritage and the environment. He is a leading specialist on the British Overseas Territories, was an observer for the Falkland Islands Referendum in 2013, and is a member of the Shackleton Scholarship Fund London Committee – a leading international funder of research in the South Atlantic region.

Alasdair’s work is at the leading edge of immersive storytelling within the academy, having co-led a multiyear international project exploring the history and heritage of “No-Man’s Land”, culminating in the launch of “Portraits of No Man’s Land” on Google Arts and Culture in 2019, incorporating VR documentary filmmaking, photogrammetry, ‘Art Cam’ data capture, and a raft of archival material digitised for the first time.
