Speaker Biography

Dave O’Brien is Chancellor’s Fellow in Cultural and Creative Industries, based in the School of History of Art, but working across several areas of study at The University of Edinburgh. He is also part of the AHRC funded Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre.

Prior to this, Dave was Senior Lecturer in Cultural Policy at ICCE, Goldsmiths. He has published on all areas of cultural and creative industries, including cultural policy, urban regeneration, cultural work, public policy, and cultural consumption. Dave has written on decision making in the British Civil Service, social mobility, and British urban policy. His most recent book, with Dr. Orian Brook and Dr. Mark Taylor, is titled ‘Culture is bad for you: Inequality in the cultural and creative industries’. Dave is also the host of the New Books In Critical Theory Podcast and works closely with the Creative Industries PEC, led by Nesta.
