The Impact of Creative Science Fiction Narratives on Global AI Policy

Tonii Leach is a PhD candidate within the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at De Montfort University, Leicester, and holds an MA in Modern Literature from the University of Leicester. She is also a Research Assistant in the Global AI Narratives Project at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, based at the University of Cambridge. She is interested in the societal and ethical implications of AI narratives. Her first paper, 'Iain M. Banks – Human, Posthuman and Beyond Human' was published in 2018.

This research seeks to understand the extent to which creative science fiction narratives inform and frame AI policy. Close textual analysis of a range of global AI policies is used to identify the specific creative science fiction narratives being used to frame AI policy.
