Creative Digital Interventions into Poetry

Peter Hebden is an AHRC-funded practice-led PhD researcher in the School of English at Newcastle University, currently investigating experimental methods of digital and digital/print hybrid poetry publishing in partnership with Bloodaxe Books. He has a background in creative writing and web/mobile application development and has produced two poetry-based mobile apps - 'Crossings' and 'Steps in Time' - for the Newcastle Poetry Festival.

Recently, he has presented his work at 'Carcanet at 50' (Manchester University, 2019), the 2019 London Book Fair, and 'Corroding the Now: Science and Poetry' (UoL Royal Holloway, 2019). Developed in partnership with the poetry publisher Bloodaxe Books, this AHRC-funded practice-led research project explores alternative approaches to the creation of digital reading interfaces by actively incorporating affordances of the digital device and the expectations of its users, rather than following the model of print-book reading in the design process.
