Understanding Machine Learning Tools for the Media Industry

Natasha Westland is a Research and Development Engineer with the BBC on their graduate scheme. She is currently working in the 'Human Data Interaction' research group as part of the BBC's Future Experience Technologies team. She has a background in physics and an interest in ML applications and data science, having previously worked on ML techniques for optimising video compression algorithms and classifying particles in high energy physics experiments.

As of the date of the Beyond 2019 conference she will have presented her work on video compression at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (in Sept 2019). This research project aims to 'improve the intelligibility of intelligence' of more complex algorithmic assistants, allowing craftspeople to concentrate on their craft.
