AI Driven approaches to Soundscape Design for Immersive Environments

Dan Turner is currently a PhD student at the University of York’s AudioLab working in collaboration with BBC R&D and is Vice-Chair of the AES York Student Section. He received a First Class BA (Hons) in Popular Music with Music Technology from the University of Derby in 2012. He then went on to gain a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2015 after which he taught audio/sound engineering related topics at MidKent Further and Higher Education College. He returned to the University of Derby where he completed the MSc Audio Engineering with Distinction in 2018.

His project explores the possibility of leveraging the maturity of computer vision algorithms to assist in the design of immersive soundscapes by utilising the wealth of visual information provided within 360 video content.
