Speaker Biography

Professor Wiebke Thormählen is Director of Research at the Royal Northern
College of Music. She holds executive responsibility for the institution’s research, knowledge exchange and library, archives and collections strategies, and oversees all external research partnerships. Her own research focusses on Sound Heritage, Public Musicology and the affordances of different modes of engaging with musical heritage. In her advocacy work, she focusses in particular on the role of Small Specialist Providers within the UK’s research ecology and has contributed to this field through her former role as Policy lead for MusicHE, the national subject association for music, and her role within the ConservatoiresUK Research network.
