Speaker Biography

Karen is Deputy Director at the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (Creative PEC). Creative PEC supports growth of the creative industries in the UK and globally through independent evidence and policy advice. Karen works with researchers and industry to engage policymakers at local, national and international levels. She is Deputy Chair of the Global Creative Economy Council (GCEC), a standalone forum for global creative economy policy and practice, supported by Creative PEC and the British Council.

Previously, Karen worked as a partner in a consultancy firm developing cultural and creative strategies for the growth of businesses, clusters and regions, and led research and policy recommendations to address key issues in the creative sector such as financial sustainability, education and infrastructure. Prior to that, she held roles at UCL where she designed the university’s flagship international programme enabling new collaborative projects across disciplines, at the British Council where she established overseas creative economy programmes, and in the publishing industry selling international rights.
