Emerging Innovators
Biography
Noelle Nurdin is an electronic producer, spatial audio and AV artist pushing the boundaries of live electronic performance through immersive technologies.
Her recent work includes showcasing a 9.1 spatial audio, audiovisual and AR performance at the BEYOND Conference, exploring motion reactivity for live performance using MiMu Gloves, Flowfal and ROLI, and creating the first virtual spatial audio live show in Fortnite.
The purpose behind her work is to develop accessible pathways for grassroots artists interested in immersive performance across the North of England. Her collaboration with Drake Music at The Royal Society demonstrated the accessibility potential of motion-reactive technology for disabled creatives, while her event OPAL provides a spatial audio platform for musicians and visual artists in Greater Manchester and Liverpool, in partnership with Supermassive, AIX and Echo Chamber.

My work explores new models for future musicians, paving pathways to a more efficient, independent and innovative creative ecosystem.
Through my research in immersive and spatial audio performance, I have been developing hybrid live shows with AIX, investigating how artists can perform across multiple venues simultaneously using participatory technology, XR and audience interaction to improve the accessibility and profitability of touring.
Virtual platforms such as Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox offer exciting potential for connecting with fans in accessible and inclusive spaces. My aim is to reimagine online and hybrid performances as alternative venues for live music, creating sober, accessible or environmentally sustainable stages that extend beyond traditional touring.
Alongside this, my community initiative OPAL builds a touring network of immersive musicians and venues—particularly supporting women, non-binary and trans creatives—where artists can deliver “plug and play” immersive performances without the cost of large-scale equipment or teams.
I am also exploring how augmented reality can transform independent artist marketing and merchandising. Using AR and NFT-inspired technologies, posters and physical items can become interactive digital experiences, deepening engagement and creating new collectible formats. Collaborating with platforms like Meta, Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft, I hope to empower artists to innovate sustainably, creatively and independently in the evolving landscape of immersive performance.
Noelle Nurdin is a groundbreaking innovator in spatial audio, immersive performance and real-time computing. I first met her through the MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub, where she developed new approaches to live spatial audio performance that evolved into avatar-based shows within game engines such as Fortnite. Her collaborations across sound, light and interactive systems exemplify her mission to redefine the creative pipeline for live digital performance.
