Jack Michael Carr

Emerging Innovators

Biography

Jack (they/them), a graduate of Wimbledon College of Arts BA Contemporary Theatre and Creative Computing, is an artist-activist who places community and compassion at the heart of exploring intersectionality. Having faced barriers of class, disability and gender, they aim to create a more equitable arts environment for all.

Their work, often expressed through theatre, visualises social and environmental justice by combining an understanding of immersive technologies with a deep appreciation of the natural world.

Jack’s dissertation project staged a Harold Pinter play in virtual reality using Unreal Engine. They have led week-long artistic residencies at Battersea Arts Centre and performed as part of an all-disabled puppet wrestling company. Their next ambition is to travel the UK in a van, speaking to and creating with the public to champion accessibility in creative storytelling.

My mentor once reminded me that our phones have more technology in them than the rockets that sent humans to the moon in the 1960s. I’m driven by love, compassion and the belief that people deserve the tools to understand and fight for their rights.

My current projects explore how accessible digital tools can tell stories of the world and reconnect us when human connection feels fragmented. They focus on community art, which I see as equally bold and vital as any large-scale theatre production. Through immersive practice, I want to expand access to technology and encourage others to see themselves as innovators, not just participants.

I’m also seeking collaborators and powerful machines to push how the arts can learn from video games—rethinking interactivity, world-building and empathy through play.

Each project deepens my understanding of how technology can democratise storytelling. From experimenting with virtual theatre to empowering underrepresented communities through participatory art, I’m building a practice grounded in accessibility, creativity and care.

Jack is a young creative working with underrepresented communities and disabled artists to make immersive technologies more inclusive. Their projects combine community storytelling, emerging digital tools and participatory art to present new forms of experience. As a mentor, I have seen Jack’s dedication to collaboration and innovation firsthand. They are building a remarkable practice that blends compassion, accessibility and creative technology to shape a fairer cultural landscape.
