Speaker Biography
Born and raised within Borel (one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest favelas) to a Polish and Romanian family, Prof. Jorge Lopes Ramos is an award winning London-based artist, curator and researcher working in the intersection between art, technology, games and social impact.
Jorge is co-founder and Executive Director of East London venue G.A.S. Station (Games and Arts Stratford) and theatre/digital arts company ZU-UK with Yemeni-British Artistic Director Persis Jadé Maravala. In a world where mainstream narratives normalize hate and fear, and where contemporary loneliness is a new epidemic, Persis Jadé and Jorge believe in the need for shared rituals, new narratives and experiences that empower those most vulnerable to have a voice and participate in culture.
Jorge is also a long term research collaborator at T.A.G. Montréal (Technoculture, Arts and Games, Concordia University), and Professor at the University of Greenwich, where he leads the Centre for Creative Futures and the Practice Hub. His artistic work has won awards and nominations in the fields of immersive theatre, hybrid art, technology and social impact.
