Speaker Biography

Werasak received a PhD in Biotechnology (Biosensors and Electroanalysis) from Cranfield University, UK, in 1997. He currently chairs the Nanoscience & Nanotechnology graduate programme at the Faculty of Science, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand. In 2018, he co-founded and became the director of the Futuristic Research Lab (FREAK Lab), an independent research group in Thailand.

Werasak has published 120 research articles (SCI-WOS listed, h-index 33), 15 book chapters, and numerous conference proceedings. He holds 14 patents that have been granted or are pending in Thailand, the USA, and China, and he has engineered three sensor and device products that are available in the market. He is the founder of two spin-off companies: Quasense, established in 2011, which commercializes custom-made thick-film based electrodes and electrochemical devices, and SpaceZab, founded in 2017, a company focused on space-related products and services in Thailand.

Werasak’s accolades include the Thailand Outstanding Technologist Award in 2016, outstanding research awards from the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) in 2013 and the Agriculture Research and Development Agency (ARDA) in 2015. Most recently, the Sensor Technology Lab received the Science and Technology Award from the Thailand Toray Science Foundation in 2022. His research interests encompass biosensors, electroanalytical chemistry, nanobiotechnology, bio digital/digital bio, and education for young talent.
