Speaker Biography
Jacob Ellis is the Director of External Relations and Culture at the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales. In this role, he leads on culture, multilateral engagement and advocates for the implementation of the Well-being of Future Generations Act across public institution in Wales.
An influential voice in global sustainability and intergenerational justice, Jacob co-leads the Impact Coalition for Future Generations and has served as a United Nations Foundation Next Generation Fellow and a UNICEF Youth Foresight Fellow leading to the successful adoption of the Declaration on Future Generations by members states in September 2024. His contributions to global discourse include speeches at COP27, the UN High-Level Political Forum and the UN Summit of the Future.
His efforts have included advising the UN High-Level Committee on Programmes and co-developing sustainability strategies with organisations such as the Football Association of Wales and the Museums Association. He is a former Charity Trustee of two national arts bodies – Literature Wales and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.
Jacob founded the Future Generations Leadership Academy, empowering emerging leaders to drive sustainability and intergenerational change. He is the Commissioner’s lead in producing the Future Generations Report 2025 and the 10th anniversary of the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
He holds a BA in Welsh and International Politics from Aberystwyth University and an MA in Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University. Jacob is a former BBC Wales journalist and held several leadership roles within National Union of Students Wales and the Cardiff Third Sector Council.
