Museums in the Metaverse
XR Innovation for Cultural Heritage
Discover the Future of Museums: Museums in the Metaverse Showcase
Join us at Beyond 2024 for a glimpse into the future of cultural heritage with the Museums in the Metaverse (MiM) project. Led by a team of experts from the University of Glasgow, this innovative platform is set to revolutionise how we experience history, art, and culture.
MiM is a cutting-edge Extended Reality (XR) platform that allows users to explore museums, heritage sites, and cultural collections in ways never before possible. By combining immersive technology with world-class research in digital heritage, MiM breaks down the physical and geographical barriers that often limit access to cultural assets. Visitors can engage with rare and diverse objects, while curators—both experts and enthusiasts—can craft new narratives and tell untold stories using virtual collections.
At the Beyond 2024 showcase, you’ll have the chance to experience the MiM demo platform firsthand. Step into the future with our VR headset demo and witness how 3D models of heritage objects can enhance understanding and offer unique, interactive experiences. Explore how immersive technology could open up access to collections and stories that are typically out of reach, and discuss the potential of XR in promoting cultural exchange, diversity, and inclusion.
The MiM project, supported by Innovate UK’s Levelling Up Innovation Accelerator, aims to transform cultural engagement by empowering communities and widening access to heritage.
