Speaker Biography
Declan Keeney is a Professor of Screen Technologies and Innovation at Ulster University and Director of the Ulster Screen Academy. Declan is also Director of Research, Development and Innovation at Studio Ulster, a £75m, 70,000 ft2 Virtual Production Studio complex with dedicated R&D labs currently under construction at Belfast Harbour Studios. Declan’s current research in support of the screen industries represents £91.5m worth of live grant-based research and development investments. Declan is a Co-investigator at Future Screens NI and recently secured £2.9m from the Levelling Up Fund for a hybrid virtual production studio. He is Co-I on a £3.2m EPSRC Network+ grant entitled ‘Virtual Production in a Digital economy’ with partners York, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and UAL. Declan chairs a SIG in Real-time and Virtual Production and opened a £1.6m Virtual Production training facility at Ulster in 2021, the first of its kind in a university in the UK or Ireland.
