Interactive Storytelling for Virtual Reality Medium by Real Walking Inside Virtual Story World
In this project, a new approach was examined to create an agency for audiences to manipulate the storylines and walk freely inside the story-world to create a unique experience based on their spatial-temporal coordination.
Regarding the medium of storytelling, virtual reality (VR) creates a general problem for audiences: disorientation. It renders VR users incapable of enduring the virtual environment for an extensive period. Therefore, the project’s approach is to enhance the audience’s experience by designing a suitable narrative structure that causes reduction of motion sickness through emotional engagement with the story and effective interaction with the environment.
Mohammadreza MAZAREI is a researcher in “Interactive Storytelling” by focusing on Virtual Reality (VR) medium for storytelling. He started a practice-based PhD project at Staffordshire University in 2020 about the interactive storytelling in VR medium through enabling audiences to walk freely inside the virtual environment of the movie. He presented a poster at the Communication and Communities 2021 Conference 2021, titled “Immersion in VR Movies: How Non-experienced Audiences Identify Themselves in Virtual Environment”. Currently, he studies using “Neuroscience” in VR filmmaking and producing interactive movies through the combination of camera workflows and 3D models and CGI creations in the Unity game engine.
