Speaker Biography<\/h3>

Lamberto Coccioli is Professor of Music and Technology at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC), Birmingham City University, and the Director of the \u00a37.2m AHRC-funded CreaTech Frontiers cluster, supporting inclusive innovation and growth in the West Midlands’ creative economy.<\/p>\n

Lamberto read architecture in Rome, graduated in music composition from Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, and completed an MBA at the University of Warwick. A series of recording trips in Colombia were also of lasting formative influence. During a 5-year collaboration with composer Luciano Berio and Centro Tempo Reale in Florence, Lamberto pioneered new concert and theatre works with live electronics and immersive audio technologies, including his ground-breaking opera Magma, to great critical acclaim.<\/p>\n

Lamberto joined RBC as Head of Music Technology in 2000, directed the 6-year, \u20ac3.1m EU-funded Integra \u2013 Fusing Music and Technology project (2005-2012), and founded Integra Lab, the internationally-renowned music interaction design research centre. As RBC’s Associate Principal from 2014 to 2024, Lamberto was responsible for RBC\u2019s international expansion and the design and realisation of the new \u00a357m RBC building with its innovative digital infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Lamberto\u2019s research interests span from soundscape composition and augmented performance to the sustainability of the live electronics repertoire, the philosophy of music technology and the ethics of AI in music creation.<\/p>
