Public Map Platform
Public Map Platform empowers communities through interactive mapping to improve planning, sustainability, and engagement, linking Welsh culture, education, and environmental awareness.
The Public Map Platform is a Green Transitions Ecosystem project
Fo the BEYOND showcase a small team of Community Mappers from the isle of Anglesey will be present. They will demonstrate the Beta version of the platform and also invite visitors to have a go at digital mapping for themselves. We will also include some theatrical/poetic/disruptive input from our team of Bards if requested.
Typically only 3% of any community bothers to engage in planning consultation. The aim of the Public Map Platform is to demonstrate how interactive maps can improve decision making, democracy and resource use while supporting the development of Green Transition behaviours.
To do this a deep data map of Ynys Môn is being made as a pilot, scalable for elsewhere. The map overlays organisational and published data with data maps made by communities as an evidence base for shared action. The maps will be clustered to make a baseline Future Generations Map for measuring progress towards the FGA wellbeing outcomes.
The team includes 14 community mappers on the island who are training up children and young people to themselves become mappers. They are developing teaching materials to enable people to get mapping and are working to integrate mapping into the Welsh Baccalaureate and other parts of the curriculum for Wales.
