Speaker Biography

Jon Francombe joined the audio team at BBC R&D in January 2018, where he works on novel immersive audio reproduction methods and applications of object-based audio, as well as sound quality evaluation. Prior to that, he graduated with a first-class honours degree in music and sound recording (Tonmeister) from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, in 2010, and received a Ph.D. in perceptual audio quality evaluation from the same institution in 2014 (working on the Perceptually Optimised Sound Zones project). He then worked as a research fellow on the EPSRC-funded “S3A: Future Spatial Audio for an Immersive Listener Experience at Home” project, investigating the perceptual attributes of spatial audio reproduction and new methods for immersive audio reproduction.
