Deirdre Hargey is a Sinn Féin politician, representing the party at Belfast City Council from 2010 to 2020 and holding the office of Lord Mayor of Belfast between June 2018 and June 2019. Deirdre is now a Sinn Féin MLA for South Belfast, and was appointed as Minister of for Communities on 11 January 2020.
Deirdre is known for her high profile campaigning on local housing and leisure inequalities. Deirdre has continued her equality campaigns into her role as Minister for Communities where she has focused her departmental priorities on housing, inclusion and tackling poverty and disadvantage.
