Speaker Biography
Katie Popperwell is a multi-disciplinary creative producer and cultural critic based in the North of England. She is Senior International Producer at UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, an ambitious programme of large scale interdisciplinary creative commissions taking place across the United Kingdom throughout 2022. Katie is responsible for leading on UNBOXED’s international partnerships, designing and delivering a programme of international engagement and a cross-cutting programme of thought leadership including research, events and digital content.
During her 20-year career in the arts she has played many different roles within the creative sector, ranging from consulting for businesses, universities and community organisations, to creating programmes of work for major UK festivals including Manchester International Festival and 14 – 18 NOW. As a journalist and broadcaster she has written for a variety of newspapers and journals, and is a former presenter of BBC 6Music news and BBC Radio 4’s flagship arts programme Front Row. She is a trustee of Manchester Unesco City of Literature.
